D's Illustrated Star Wars

I don't think I'm coming out of the closet to reveal that I'm a geek; but perhaps you don't know just how geeky... I play Roleplaying Games (like Dungeons & Dragons)- Phew, it feels good saying that out loud (actually I'm pretty unashamedly proud of it).

My group recently finished up a two and a half year Star Wars 'campaign' (which is quite impressive I assure you) and as part of that process the players kept up a series of fantastic journals (via a blog) written from their character's perspective and illustrated by me. I recently (finally) finished that epic task and thought I'd share a few of my favorites….

Star Wars: 1313

One of the great disappointments of the closure of LucasArts last year was the loss of the video game Starwars: 1313 which in it's closing state of (now defunct) development looked like it was probably going to be pretty awesome.

IGN has a nice article on the game, or what was the game with lot's of gorgeous concept art, movies; including the demo and the revelation that it would actually revolve around Boba Fett! Check it out.

Disney Buys Lucasfilm

The court is still out on this one as to whether it will be a good thing or bad thing for the Star Wars universe, but I'm coming down on the side of the positive; even if I'm extremely wary of a new trilogy being hacked together in two years...

The Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm and is already planning "Star Wars: Episode VII", the first of a new trilogy, for release in 2015.
Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of Lucasfilm and its operating businesses in live action film production, consumer products, animation, visual effects, and audio post production.
This includes all its subsidiary offshoots beyond Lucasfilm Ltd. itself including LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound. Lucasfilm employees are expected to remain in their current locations.

D's Star Wars: Rogue Traders

The following article contains nerdity, reader discretion is advised.

One of my hobbies (or in my case 'Life Style choices') is that I play roleplaying games (e.g. Dungeons & Dragons).

As part of a Star Wars game I'm currently running I use an interesting community site called Obsidian Portal to help me manage my game; essentially a repository for information, rules and player journals. This site has literally thousands of other such 'campaigns' and each month they nominate one site as 'Campaign of the Month'... This Month, it was us... Star Wars: Rogue Traders. Now a big part of that award goes to my players who keep a weekly journal of their antics in the game and it is pretty awesome reading (if you're into that sort of thing) but my contribution, in addition to managing the site, has been the artwork.

Essentially this has been a bit of an epic personal project for me, creating characters and 'scenes' from the game sessions. Below is a selection, enjoy.

Star Wars Kinect

I heard a lot about this; the latest Star Wars game on X360 Kinect and it's 'dance' component and I avoided it... With the hate of a man burnt by 3 prequels... But I kept getting sent links and eventually I checked it out and well... It's actually pretty cool. The idea is makes me cringe but it's execution is that of people who obvioulsy love and respect Star Wars, the song lyrics, the dance move names, it's actually pretty well done.
